The word "Arthritis" means "joint inflammation" or joint pain that happens in the junction of the bones that can be affected by the repeated and wear and tear use of the limbs. At the end of the bone there lies cartilage that provides the cushion in form of the smooth surface for the bones to absorb the shock and the rub. Muscles and ligaments link the bones together and form a capsule in which the synovial fluid is found to act as the lubricant to ensure safer and smooth movements with out any friction of the bones. No of the people who have become the victim of arthritis is more than 30% among the whole population of United States.

The most common two types of arthritis are seen in the word are Osteoarthritis and Rheumatoid Arthritis. Which natural arthritis treatments are being developed for as we speak.

By far the most common form of arthritis is Osteoarthritis. This usually occurs as part of the ageing process and is caused by degeneration of the cartilage. As the cartilage starts to thin, inflammation occurs within the joint, damaging the joint and leading to pain and swelling. As the disease progresses, the joint may become disfigured and eventually lose all functions. Osteoarthritis commonly results in pain and inflammation in knee, wrist, spine and it can reach further to intolerable back pain with the swelling and redness.

Rheumatoid arthritis is the terrible form of arthritis found with the all the common symptoms of Osteoarthritis like warmth, tenderness and the swelling. People of around 20 to 50 yrs of age can have the chance to get affected with this disease. More than 2.1 million people have been suffering from this disease in United States. One of the specialties that this kind of arthritis has got is to attack people with the symmetrical pattern. That means if one limb like the left hand of someone has been affected, there is the probability for being attacked on the right hand as well.

Natural Arthritis Treatments and Important Prevention

Never the less the disease arthritis is a complete hazardous and exertion of the body. In fact, the survey indicates the people do suffer a lot from arthritis especially who are working and use basic organ or body part to get their work done. People generally loose the mobility of the certain limbs and become idle by the excessive infestation of this particular disease.

In US at least one individual out there has become the victim of the arthritis as per the statistics goes. Arthritis is not a single disease the medical community looks at, it is combination of 100 separate segments of chronic stretching of joint pain and back pain symptoms. The two common form of the arthritis that can affect people at any stage of life are Osteoarthritis and Rheumatoid. These two forms consist of various causes and the risk factors, yet they do share some common symptoms- persistent joint pain, hip pain, wrist pain and back pain. Today there is more luck with medical research and joint. Natural arthritis treatments are becoming more studies and popping up everywhere.

Osteoarthritis is the most common arthritis found in United States. Approximately 21 million people suffer from this disease. This disease largely affects the joint cartilage and leads to joint bone tendon, stiffness by breaking down of the cartilage. When to search the main cause of the Osteoarthritis, we become deprived to aware the actual cause. But the deep scientific research states the joint pain begin in response to physical stress (mainly for the continual movement of the limb). The stress deteriorates the cartilage that encases the end pat of the bones firm and provide with the cushion for the bones to help the bones to move and work smoothly and comprehensively. As the Osteoarthritis causes the break down to the cartilage, it allows the bone to thicken the end and if it goes on the bones rub each other and pops out pain. The secretion of some certain substance named as prostaglandins from the joint tissues causes the swelling and stress. Typical back pain is mainly derived from this type of arthritis. As new natural arthritis healing products are becoming developed, joint pain and reducing stress and swelling is the common goal.

Rheumatoid Arthritis is chronic system inflammatory disease of undetermined etiology involving the articular structures of the multiple joints. The disease is often progressive and results in pain, stiffness, and swelling of joints. In late stages deformity and ankylosis develop. The cause of RA is unknown. The diagnosis is based routinely on the persistence of arthritic symptoms over time. The primary targets of inflammation are synovial membranes and articular structures. Other organs are affected as well. Inflammation, proliferation, and degeneration typify synovial membrane involvement. Joint deformities and disability result from the erosion and destruction of synovial membranes and articular surfaces.

Though the anatomical changes are very difficult to be reversed but their have been certain natural preparations that are extremely helpful in suppressing pain and prevent any further damage to the joint. Few natural herbs are very effective in curbing and cure arthritis. Now scientists are single goal orientated in solving arthritis pain treatment.

Cancer Treatment and Prevention

Cancer is a class of diseases or disorders characterized by uncontrolled division of cells and the ability of these to spread, either by direct growth into adjacent tissue through invasion, or by implantation into distant sites by metastasis (where cancer cells are transported through the bloodstream or lymphatic system). Cancer may affect people at all ages, but risk tends to increase with age. There are many types of cancer. Most cancers are named for where they start. For example, lung cancer starts in the lung, and breast cancer starts in the breast. The spread of cancer from one part of the body to another is called metastasis. Severity of symptoms depends on the site and character of the malignancy and whether there is metastasis.

Cancer is caused by damage to DNA, resulting in mutations to genes that encode for proteins controlling cell division. Many mutation events may be required to transform a normal cell into a malignant cell. This tissue is obtained by biopsy or surgery.. These mutations can be caused by radiation, chemicals or physical agents that cause cancer, which are called carcinogens, or by certain viruses that can insert their DNA into the human genome. Mutations occur spontaneously, and may be passed down from one cell generation to the next as a result of mutations within germ lines. However, some carcinogens also appear to work through non-mutagenic pathways that affect the level of transcription of certain genes without causing genetic mutation.

Treatment of Cancer

Cancer can be treated by surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, immunotherapy, monoclonal antibody therapy or other methods. Chemotherapy is the treatment of cancer with drugs ("anticancer drugs") that can destroy cancer cells. It interferes with cell division in various possible ways, e.g. with the duplication of DNA or the separation of newly formed chromosomes. Most forms of chemotherapy target all rapidly dividing cells and are not specific for cancer cells. Hence, chemotherapy has the potential to harm healthy tissue, especially those tissues that have a high replacement rate (e.g. intestinal lining). These cells usually repair themselves after chemotherapy. Treatment of some leukaemias and lymphomas requires the use of high-dose chemotherapy, and total body irradiation (TBI). This treatment ablates the bone marrow, and hence the body's ability to recover and repopulate the blood.

Radiation therapy (also called radiotherapy, X-ray therapy, or irradiation) is the use of ionizing radiation to kill cancer cells and shrink tumors. Radiation therapy can be administered externally via external beam radiotherapy (EBRT) or internally via brachytherapy. The effects of radiation therapy are localised and confined to the region being treated. Radiation. Hormone-sensitive tumors include certain types of breast and prostate cancers. Removing or blocking estrogen or testosterone is often an important additional treatment. Pain medication, such as morphine and oxycodone, and antiemetics, drugs to suppress nausea and vomiting, are very commonly used in patients with cancer-related symptoms. Cancers can be cured if entirely removed by surgery, but this is not always possible. When the cancer has metastasized to other sites in the body prior to surgery, complete surgical excision is usually impossible.

Prevention of Cancer

Cancer prevention is defined as active measures to decrease the incidence of cancer. Much of the promise for cancer prevention comes from observational epidemiologic studies that show associations between modifiable life style factors or environmental exposures and specific cancers. Use of exogenous hormones, exposure to ionizing radiation and ultraviolet radiation, certain occupational and chemical exposures, and infectious agents. Alcohol consumption, Smoking (although 20% of women with lung cancer have never smoked, versus 10% of men. Cancer however, compared with tobacco exposure, the magnitude of effect is modest or small and the strength of evidence is often weaker. Do not take the Alcohol and No Smoking.

Use These 7 Acne Skin Care Tips To Ensure Healthy Skin

There's an old saying that people should take care of the skin they're in. While this absolutely correct, those who suffer from acne might have a harder time of it. Handling skin that's prone to break outs, blemishes and even scarring can present challenges, to say the least. There are some solid acne skin care tips that can help.

The first thing to remember about acne skin care is that not all people are alike. Treatments that work wonders for some people might not for others. Some skin will respond beautifully to one production, while others find their cases of acne complicated by flaking, peeling and drying. There are some generalized acne skin care tips, however, that can help almost everyone at least ensure their skin is well cleansed and cared for:

* Don't over wash. Many people believe that acne skin care starts with cleansing, cleansing and more cleansing. While it is true that clean skin is important, generally twice a day will do it. Unless there are extenuating circumstances, such as excessive dirt, sweat or grime, there's no reason to over wash. In fact, it can irritate the skin and actually lead to more breakouts and other complications.

* Don't scrub too hard. This is another propensity of people with acne. Scrubbing the skin to the point of distraction will not make acne go away. It can actually damage the skin, break pimples and lead to scaring. Gentle cleaning is all that's really necessary. Avoid harsh cleansers and harsh cleansing cloths and pads.

* Keep your hands to yourself. Touching, poking and popping pimples will not get rid of them, really. While this might make them look better temporarily, the reality is this practice can lead to permanent scarring.

* Take care when using new products. There are some wonderful acne skin care products that can really help, but these can come with their own kinds of side effects and precautions. Read labels and take care when trying anything new. Test for allergies and side effects by starting out slowly with any new product. This goes for cleansers, astringents, cosmetics and even moisturizers.

* Follow medication directions to the letter and keep an eye out for side effects. Whether it's pharmacy brand medication or actual prescriptions, these medications can be a little harsh, especially at first.

* Avoid prolonged sun exposure. Sure, the sun can make acne prone skin look better for a day or two, but the drying and wrinkling factor won't improve it for long. Use caution in the sun and consider sunscreen to protect against the damaging effects of the sun.

* Get help when it's needed. If no acne skin care efforts at home are paying off, it might be time to consider more serious help. This is especially so for those with moderate to severe cases where potential scar formation is a possibility.

Acne skin care is a carefully balancing act of trying to find out what works and what does not. Some treatments can really help and other might fall flat.

Wrinkles - Causes, Symptoms and Treatment

Wrinkle is a ridge or crease of a surface. It usually refers to folds on fabric or clothes , or on the skin of an organism; the folds are generally random and do not exhibit any repeating pattern. Wrinkles are the thin, creased, and sagging skin that is especially noticeable on the face, neck, and hands. Wind, heat and chemicals and the natural effects of aging cause a certain amount of wrinkling in everyone, but it is much worse in people who spend a lot of time in the sun. Years of exposure to the sun cause "photoaging," which includes freckles, yellowing, roughness, visible blood vessels, and dark spots, as well as wrinkling.

Typically, as a person ages, the sweat and oil glands of the skin become less numerous and smaller in size. This causes the skin to lose moisture and to dry out, and it soon begins to sag in places where the collagen, the elastic fibers that support the skin, has weakened the most. The skin around the eyelids, jaw, and neck is especially thin, and therefore more naturally prone to aging. In addition to sun exposure, smoking may contribute to the formation of wrinkles. Finally, it is believed that some wrinkling is predetermined genetically from one's parents.

Causes of Wrinkles

Aging is also one of the main causes of skin aging. Years of sun exposure cause the supporting structures of the skin, primarily the collagen and elastin, to weaken and break down. In addition, as a person ages, the sweat and oil glands of the skin become less numerous and smaller in size. This causes the skin to lose moisture and to dry out. Dry skin with weak collagen and elastin will sag, shrivel, and wrinkle. The skin around the eyelids, jaw, and neck is especially thin, and therefore more naturally prone to aging.

Other environmental factors, including cigarette smoke and pollution, particularly ozone, may hasten ageing by producing oxygen-free radicals. These are particles produced by many of the body's normal chemical processes in excessive amounts they can damage cell membranes and interact with genetic material, possibly contributing to the development of a number of skin disorders, including wrinkles and, more importantly, cancer. Rapid weight loss can also cause wrinkles by reducing the volume of fat cells that cushion the face. This not only makes a person look gaunt, but can cause the skin to sag.

Symptoms of Wrinkles

1. Deeplyformed lines.

2. Skin that is wrinkled may also have a tough, leathery appearance if the person has had a lot of exposure to the sun.

3. Fine, crinkling crosshatch marks.

Treatment of Wrinkles

There are numerous over-the-counter treatment options for wrinkles, including various creams and lotions. Prescription treatments, including the retinoid cream renova, are also an option.Removing skin layers to reduce wrinkles or irregular depressions is an effective way to regain smoother, more youthful looking skin. Dermabrasion (scraping layers away) and chemical peels (dissolving skin away) are two of the traditional methods used in skin resurfacing.

Laser skin resurfacing with an ablative laser (such as an erbium or carbon dioxide laser) is another technique that, like dermabrasion and deeper chemical peels, may require some downtime during the healing process. Other treatment options include Dermabrasion, a procedure that sands away the top layers of skin. Injection of substances such as fat or collagen, which is a gelatin-like substance, under the skin. It is one of the traditional methods used in skin resurfacing. Other lasers, known as non-ablative lasers, may also be beneficial in treating wrinkles. These lasers work by heating the dermis and stimulating collagen growth. This process, which leaves the outer layers of skin intact, has no downtime associated with it. Botulinum toxin- this is used for wrinkles between the eyebrows and around the eyes. The toxin is injected into the muscle that caused the wrinkle. It paralyzes the muscle, so that the wrinkles gradually disappear when the muscle isn't used.

They probably told you to do things like take a pair of fingernail clippers and cut it off! Now I don't know about you, but even when someone tells me that something is not going to hurt much that just tells me that it is going to hurt like the dickens so you better do it quick. What the people forgot to tell you about this method of home removal for skin tags is that it can not only cause you to bleed (sometimes quite a bit) but it can also cause an infection if you don't sterilize the clippers, and it could leave a scar in the place of the skin tag, hardly a worthy trade off.

Other people are quick to tell you that you must go to the doctors in order to have the skin tag removal process done. Sure, you could do that, but you would end up paying a small fortune for the visit, and then after they removed the skin tag they may send it off to be tested at your expense. The Secret Acne Cure Revealed

In this short article you will find out the secret acne cure the greedy acne industry doesn't want you to find out about. These 3 simple, natural and effective acne clearing steps cured me of my acne...

1. I found out after many years of suffering from chronic acne that food had a direct effect on my skin. Some foods seemed to clear my acne up somewhat, some made no difference, whilst a few foods caused break outs. The main one is vegetable oil. Whenever I ate this zits would appear within hours...

I advise you to avoid vegetable oil completely. There are others that are best to avoid as well, but vegetable oil is the worst. The most common source of vegetable oil is sunflower oil used in sauces and as cooking oils. You need to make sure you do not eat these, so check the food ingredients list of the food products you use.

2. I found that when I increased my intake of nutrients such as vitamins, minerals and enzymes, my skin cleared up significantly. I did this by eating more wholefoods and vegetables, and by taking some quality supplements.

3. The last step I took was to get rid of a fungi infection I had. This cleared up the remaining acne I would get.

These three steps are simple, totally safe, and the only way that I managed to clear my skin. I recommend that you try them and see the acne curing effects for yourself.

Blackheads - Causes, Symptoms and Treatment

Blackheads are tiny, dark spots caused by a small plug in the opening of a follicle (pore) on the skin. Blackheads are also called open comedomes. A blackhead is a type of acne vulgaris. It is caused by excess oils that have accumulated in the sebaceous gland 's duct. Blackheads are typically caused by excessive oil and makeup, which can facilitate the multiplication of the bacterium propionibacterium acnes, the predominant anaerobe of the normal skin flora. The substance found in these bumps mostly consists of keratin and modified sebum (an oily secretion of the sebaceous gland ), which darkens
(resembling dirt) as it oxidizes. Blackheads are the slightly different sibling of zits, and like zits, squeezing them can be addictive. Composed of the same oil, or sebum, that contributes to the production of pimples, blackheads result from a building up of this oil in pores the difference in appearance is the esult of the blackhead's exposure to the air, the reaction of which with the oil causes the trademark black color of these blemishes. And while blackheads are more easily obscured by makeup, they can seem less offensive to the sufferer, and as a result, less damaging to squeeze. But squeezing is not good for blackhead. It leaves a permanent scar on skin and also infection will occur.

Blackheads and especially whiteheads are promoted by dark appearance is caused by the densely packed skin cells, which take on a dark colour excessive cellular exfoliation. The other name of Blackheads is open comedones, skin coloured are flat, darkened spots that form when pores become clogged with a mixture of sebum (or oil) and dead skin cells. Whiteheads and blackheads, both symptoms of the skin condition acne, commonly appear on the face and shoulders, but they may also develop on the trunk, arms, legs, and buttocks. They are most common in teenagers but can occur at any age, even in infants. Treatment for whiteheads and blackheads depends on the severity of the condition. Treatment may include lotions or gels placed on blemishes or sometimes entire areas of skin, such as the chest or back (topical medications). Oral medications, such as antibiotics, may be prescribed.

Causes of Blackheads

Blackheads is caused when excess skin oil, sebum and congesting toxins are expelled through your skin from the blood and lymph fluid that supplies your skin with nutrients. These congesting toxins combined with skin oil and sebum clogs your pores causing blackheads, whiteheads, and full blown acne. Dirt also plays a big role in developing skin blackheads. The dirt stored on the face or other parts of body make the bacteria to develop. The dirt with oily skin makes things even worse. Although food id thought not to be the cause of blackhead but doctor believe that there may be some role of food in it too.

Symptoms of Blackheads

Blackheads and whiteheads are a combination of oils, sebum and cellular fragments that form firm to hard plugs within hair follicles. Blackheads are open to the skin's surface and become darkened at the surface by exposure to oxygen (oxidation). They are called open comedones (or comedo, singular). Whiteheads are closed from the skin's surface by cellular debris at the follicle opening. Because they are closed from oxygen they do not oxidize or turn brown. They form a light or yellow-white lump and are called milia (or milium, singular). When bacteria is added to these plugs, the condition can lead to acne.

Treatment of of Blackheads

Mild cases of acne can be self-treated with over-the-counter topical (applied to the skin) creams typically with benzoyl peroxide. There are also a variety of different medications that your family physician might prescribe that come as creams, ointments, and pills. It is wise to start by applying the cream or ointment at night to see how you react, and then if necessary you can go to twice a day. Some of the stronger medications for acne are not to be used if you are pregnant, so make sure you tell your doctor if this is a possibility. Most acne medications work by reducing the next "crop" of acne, so don't get discouraged if the treatment does not work right away.

Home Remedy for Blackheads

1. In 3-4 cup boiled water, add 2 tsp of soda bicarbonate. Steam a towel with this. Thereafter, place the towel gently on your face. Do it for about 5-6 times. Make a paste by mixing 1 tsp curd and 1 tsp rice flour. Apply the paste on the affected area. After some time, wash your face with cold water.

2. Take about 1 tsp of juice extracted from fresh coriander leaves and add ½ tsp of turmeric powder in it. Apply this mixture while going to bed. Wash your face the next morning with cold water.

3. Take a pinch of soft portion of glycerin soap and mix with a pinch of table salt. Apply this mixture on the blackheads. Do it for about a week and see the magical results.

4. Salicylic acid, glycolic acid, benzyl peroxide, etc. can be counter-productive to softening and dissolving blackheads and whiteheads as they can dehydrate dry, normal and combination skin

5. Make a paste by mixing 1 tsp limejuice and 1 tsp of finely powdered cinnamon. Apply it on the affected area before going to bed. Wash it off in the morning.

If there is one skin condition that is shrouded with mystery, warts can definitely vie for the top spot! Warts may come and go as they please with no scientific explanation as to why or how this happens. Why warts behave this way, nobody knows for sure.

Most of us may have had a wart at one point of our lives. Warts are those rough irregular skin growths that can appear in the face, hands, forearms, feet and genital areas. The human papilloma virus, or HPV, causes warts and they can be very contagious!

All warts are not created equal. In fact, there are several kinds of warts – the common warts, the flat warts, the plantar warts and the genital warts. The common warts are rough looking and are commonly found on our hands and fingers. Flat warts are much smaller, have smoother surfaces and can be found on the hands and on the face. Plantar warts are those found on the soles of the feet while genital warts are those found on the genitals and the anal area.

Warts are so mysterious that up until now, an effective solution to end this problem is yet to be discovered! If you have these unsightly bumps troubling you at present, you only have two options in having them removed. You can either seek medical help or try a few skin care tricks at home. Read on to learn some tips in banishing those warts!

Is it really a wart? If you seriously want to remove those unsightly bumps and have a clearer and fresh-looking skin, you have to make sure that it is indeed a wart. You must know how to differentiate a wart from a mole, a corn and a callus or skin cancer. When in doubt, see your doctor. He or she may help you in establishing if it is indeed a wart.

No touching, please! As much as possible, avoid touching your warts. This is the ultimate skin care tip in case of warts. Frequent touching will only aggravate the condition. It can spread the virus all over your skin and you may even accidentally transfer it to another person. To avoid this, wash your hands immediately in hot water to prevent further contamination.

Castor oil to the rescue! Applying castor oil to the warts twice a day may help in eliminating those ugly skin imperfections. Castor oil is mildly acidic and has the power to irritate the warts. Do this continuously and your warts will disappear!

Try Vitamin C - Another great skin care tip in eliminating warts is to use vitamin C. Like castor oil, vitamin C is also mildly acidic in nature and can make those warts say goodbye to your skin for good! To explore the power of vitamin C, crush several vitamin C tablets and mix it with enough water to make a paste. Apply the resulting paste directly on the wart and cover it with a piece of clean gauze. Secure the gauze in place using several layers of tape and soon, your wart will just drop off!

Use heat to remove warts - Soaking the warts in very hot water may soften its surface and will hopefully kill the virus that lurks beneath it. However, this method can only be applied for plantar warts. Also, make sure you do not use boiling water so that you don't accidentally burn yourself in the process.

Using Herbal Remedies To Help Cure Erectile Dysfunction

Erectile dysfunction is one of the most frustrating sexual issues that exists in relationships today. Because the goal is to prolong the overall sexual experience and heighten pleasure as much as possible, problems getting and then maintaining an erection can shorten intercourse and leave one or both parties feeling dissatisfied. As a result, relationships may suffer greatly. There are, however, ways to treat and cure erectile dysfunction, many of which are worth exploring.

There are many products currently available on the market to help improve one's sex life. This includes products that increase erectile function. Most of these products come in the form of medication, usually in pill form. Some are prescription drugs that must, therefore, by given out by a physician, while others are natural remedies that can be purchased over-the-counter. While there are benefits to both, it may pay to take a closer look at the natural alternatives.

Over the past several years, the use of herbal remedies has increased, as they have been found to be safer alternatives to other medications. This is because they often lack the potentially dangerous side effects that can come with other, more potent medications. Medication that requires a prescription is usually stronger, and can require the attention of a doctor or other medical professional if not taken correctly, or if a problem should occur. While it is true that this can be the case with almost any medication, prescription drugs can, and often do, pose more of a hazard than other alternatives. This is why many people have resorted to other, more natural methods of curing and preventing a variety of common ailments.

As you might expect, there are natural herbal alternatives for curing erectile dysfunction. These usually come in tablet form, and also include the necessary instructions and useful information about what they contain, and how they can benefit you. Because they are all natural, they are safer, lacking the side effects of other prescription medications.

How Does Phototherapy for Acne Really Work?

Intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy and lasers have garnered media attention as leading-edge acne treatments. Often times the effectiveness of phototherapy is credited to the destruction of a popular clear skin nemesis, the so-called "acne causing bacteria" Propionibacterium acnes (p. acnes). Yet ironically, closer examination of how phototherapy actually works paints p. acnes as a catalyst for improving acne plagued skin, not a pimple provoker.

Immonouppression stops pending pimples

In a process known as "immunosuppression" p. acnes could reduce the skin's inflammatory response to a developing an acne lesion.

Several factors like hormonal shifts, stress and nutrient deficiencies can lead to the surfacing of an acne lesion. One factor that aggravates a nascent acne lesion is the body's immunological response to all of the agents that ultimately form a zit.

One of the many cells involved in the body's immunological response to imposing acne lesions are Langerhans cells. Langerhans cells respond to foreign agents that can cause an immune response such as inflammation. Plus, Langerhans cells activate other immune cells in response to foreign attacks.

In laboratory studies, application of the common pre-phototherapy treatment aminolevulinic acid (ALA) decreased the number of Langerhans cells within the skin. This led researchers to conclude that ALA causes an immunosuppressive response in the skin.

By suppressing the actions of Langerhans cells, ALA may reduce the number of inflamed acne lesions on the skin. Other studies suggest the immunosuppressive action of aminolevulinic acid is a key acne preventative.

For instance, an investigation in the Journal of Cosmetic and Laser Therapy found that phototherapy sessions with application of aminolevulinic acid improved mild and severe acne lesions. But the phototherapy did not improve non-inflammatory acne lesions called comedones, which are pores clogged with hardened oils and dead skin cells.

Bacteria are not the acne bad guys

Medical studies have elucidated other reasons why bacteria are not necessarily acne culprits. For example, a report in the British Journal of Dermatology aimed to identify how phototherapy and aminolevulinic acid reduced a patient's acne lesion count. Ten patients with body acne took part in the study. Researchers assigned four equally acne afflicted areas of the volunteers' back to receive either an acne treatment consisting of ALA and phototherapy, ALA alone, phototherapy alone, or no treatment.

The patients received a weekly treatment for three weeks. Researchers also measured the oil secretion levels and p. acnes count of the patients before the first treatment and after the final treatment.

After three weeks of treatment, the area treated with both ALA and phototherapy exhibited a significant reduction in inflamed acne lesions. However, the oil secretion levels and p. acnes count did not drop significantly.

These findings suggest that p. acnes and oil secretion are not the root cause of acne and that phototherapy does not work exclusively by destroying p. acnes.

Acne and the sun

People have practiced do-it-yourself phototherapy for millennium using sunbathing and tanning salons. Based on available research, it's likely that when p. acnes receive light exposure, this creates a substance called porphyrin. These porphyrins can in turn reduce the presence of Langerhans cells in the skin. With less Langerhans cells circulating in the skin, an inflammatory response becomes less likely. This also reduces the chances of experiencing acne lesions.

Regardless of how phototherapy works, it looks like "acne-causing bacteria" are part of the cure, not the problem.

Best Acne Skin Care Product

If you are suffering from acne, you are probably desperate to find a product that will help you cure the skin condition. A visit to your local pharmacist may leave you with a headache, given the vast assortment of products currently available. However, you will be able to find the best acne skin care product for you with a little time and effort.

The first step involves choosing a product that is gentle to the skin. Many products contain very abrasive materials that will rub against your pimple, inflame the skin and worsen the condition. You should choose mild products and wash your face gently each morning and each night. You can choose exfoliants, as long as they are very mild. Cleaning products come in a wide variety of forms and names including cleansers, gels, creams, lotions, exfoliants, toners and washes. All of these types of cleansers will help to open your pores and remove some of the dirt and bacteria trapped beneath your skin.

Next, you may want to choose an acne skin care product that contains ingredients to help you combat the bacteria trapped under your skin. Most products contain ingredients such as Benzoyl Peroxide, alpha hydroxy or Retin A. Many companies now offer products specifically targeted to combat acne. It is also best to shop around as your skin will react differently to the various products. Don't expect an expensive product to work better for you, just because it costs more than other brands. If you are unsure which product is best for you, visit some internet sites or talk to a dermatologist. They will guide you in the right direction and point out some skin care products you can try.

If you want to cure your acne, the main thing you will require is patience. You have to realize that your skin disorder didn't appear overnight. Unfortunately, it will not clear up instantly either, despite claims that some acne products may make. However, determining the best acne skin care product for you will help you reduce the symptoms and eventually cure the disorder completely.

Management and Prevention of Adult Acne

Adolescence and teen-aged years are filled with friends, parties, and exciting school events, but it can also be overflowing with insecurities, self-doubt, and low self-esteem. Adding acne to this equation can make adolescents want to fast forward to their adult years where they are convinced their skin will be healthy and beautiful.

In some cases, individuals do outgrow acne and find the skin they dreamed about as a teenager. But, for others, skin afflictions continue in the form of adult acne. Adults are reminded of an acquaintance they would rather forget and left with their own adult insecurity, depression, anxiety, and frustration.

Adult acne is actually quite common, affecting fifty-percent of women and twenty-five percent of men sometime in their lives. By the time a person reaches their thirties, acne tends to disappear, but for some, the skin problems continue.

When an individual exhibits signs of acne after the age of twenty-five, they could be repeating a pattern they experienced in their younger years. Some individuals experience it during pregnancy or during their menstrual cycles. Others, who have gone their entire lives without ever experiencing a bout of acne, suddenly have an outbreak based on a myriad of reasons.

When a person suffers from adult acne, it is imperative that they be examined by a dermatologist who can recommend appropriate treatment options. During an exam the dermatologist will try to discover the root cause. Several factors can influence the onset including hormonal fluctuations, diet, environmental factors, medication, and stress, among others.

During a hormonal adult acne outbreak, women may be able to seek relief from over-the-counter medications or specific antibiotics prescribed by a doctor. Certain birth control pills have also been known to regulate a women's menstrual cycle and balance hormonal levels, thus lessening the risk of developing acne.

Developing a healthy skin care regime may also assist in managing a current outbreak or minimizing the risk of developing future outbreaks. A gentle cleanser combined with noncomedogenic skin care products designed to help keep skin clear, may minimize the oil on the skin's surface. It is also imperative to avoid the touching, squeezing, or popping of a blemish which can increase irritation and actually work to spread acne.

Those who suffer from adult acne may feel tempted to get a suntan in order to mask the appearance. Unfortunately, sun exposure does more to damage the skin than it does to clear it. Exposure to the sun can actually exacerbate it and put you at risk for the early onset of aging and the possible development of skin cancers.

Adults do not have to suffer in silence or feel embarrassed about the onset of adult acne. Doing the research, arming oneself with knowledge, and discussing options with a doctor will allow a sufferer to gain control of the situation and take matters into their own hands. Utilizing a healthy skin regimen and discussing concerns and treatment options with a doctor are first steps in the management and prevention of adult acne.

Acne Treatment - Is Light Therapy The Answer For Your Acne?

Those who suffer from acne know the meaning of the word desperation. They get so desperate after many treatments, that they lose hope of getting the acne treated at all. That takes them to the world of home remedies, herbal remedies and other such remedies, which spoil the acne further instead of treating it. Is light therapy the answer to your acne problem? Let us find out.

Light of different wavelength is being tried to find out how it treats acne. One requirement is that the light should have no ultraviolet rays. Ultra violet rays can cause skin problems. So the primary considerations are - how the light treats acne and its safety for use. Some lights kill the bacteria P. acnes and reduce the infection. Some others destroy the sebaceous glands and stop the sebum getting produced. The following light therapies are now commonly used to treat acne.

Blue Light:

High intensity blue light is used to treat acne. Blue light destroys the infection causing bacteria P.acnes and reduces inflammation. Blue light is free of ultra violet and therefore safe to use. In this procedure, skin is exposed to a blue light for a particular period, the normal duration being fifteen minutes. Blue light treatment is generally used for eight sessions. Blue light is very convenient to treat the acne on the back.

Blue light may cause some side effects such as swelling, dryness and pigment change. These are temporary effects and resolve soon.

Green-Yellow Light and Heat Energy:

This combination is also known as LHE- light and heat energy. Pulses of light and heat are used to treat acne. LHE destroys the infecting bacteria-P.acnes and, shrinks the sebaceous glands. By shrinking the glands, sebum production decreases and acne gets cured.

Diode Laser:

This laser destroys the sebaceous glands without harming the outer layer of the skin. With the destruction of the glands, sebum production stops and acne gets treated. This high-energy laser treatment can cause temporary redness and swelling.

Dry Skin in Sandals Is Not a Pretty Sight

Spring is now official. It's time to shed our heavy winter boots and clothing and don sandals, shorts, tank tops and bathing suits. However, for some of us it's not going to be the joy nature intended. Dry skin on our legs and feet with heels like leather will make us wish we were back in our cold-weather gear. Fortunately, there is a solution: a breakthrough in dry skin care technology called shielding lotion.

Why is shielding lotion different than other dry skin products? Unlike moisturizers, a good shielding lotion bonds with the surface layer of the skin to form a new non-greasy protective layer that locks in moisture so your legs and feet are smooth as silk. Here's what people are saying about it.

"I sell beauty supplies for a very well known company and have tried all they have to offer and never got such amazing results. I used to have to go to bed with long sleeve shirts to cover my elbows, long pants to cover my knees, and socks to cover my feet because these areas were so dry and cracked that they would stick to my bed sheets and even wake me up at night. Now I am a comfortable sleeper and never wear socks unless I have to, I can even wear panty hose without running them just by pulling them over my feet. This is the best product I have ever bought."

"My wife has had a dry heel problem for years and has used stones, razors, multiple creams (including Rx) and the MOMENT she put Gloves In A Bottle on, she said her dry skin problem was over."

"All my life I have suffered from severe dry skin on my legs only, not too sure why just my legs and it has always affected shaving for me. Each and every time I shave I would get rash and bumps and my hair would grow under the skin. I would scratch until it was painful then could not shave for days after, even using an electric shaver. I saw this product at Kaiser Hospital and thought it would be worth trying. It is the first time in 30 years that my skin has not only felt like baby skin but now I have NO problems with shaving or the horrible after affects that I have always experienced. I have tried soooo many products that claim to work but never did. This product has saved my skin and makes my legs look and feel beautiful."

If you want to look great this season, get rid of dry skin with a good shielding lotion. Beautiful legs and feet will put the spring back into your step!

All Types of Acne Cures

Curing acne is something that many medications promise but few deliver. The shelves of your local pharmacy or supermarket are stocked with skin treatments that claim to get rid of zits once and for all. If you have been troubled by this common but painful condition, you have probably carted home special creams, concealers, soaps, and vitamins in the hope that your skin will be zit-free in the few short days advertised on the labels.

If over-the-counter products have been ineffective however, it is time for you to make an appointment with your family physician or dermatologist. Your doctor can prescribe topical treatments that are stronger and more effective than the ones available without a prescription.

Your specialist may begin with simple external applications such as benzoil peroxide. Formulations containing benzoil peroxide work by killing bacteria that are trapped in your pores by excess oil. Unfortunately, superficial skin medications do not address deep infections that cannot be reached from the skin's surface.

Deeper body surface infections may respond to management with an antibiotic. Two of the most common antibiotics used for curing body surface infections are tetracycline and erythromycin. These medications eliminate the bacteria causing infection in the deepest layers of the skin.

Your physician may prescribe a chemical peel as well as medication. A chemical such as glycolic acid is used to cause the uppermost layer of your skin to peel off. Other, less extreme ways of removing the top layer of your skin comprise scrubbing your face with slightly abrasive pads or employing skin washes that contain beads or microscopic particles.

It has long been recognized that exposure to sunshine can be used as a body surface treatment. Special lighting is now available that can reduce the number of inflamed skin lesions by about 70% or so within about a month. One advantage of this technique is that it has no known side effects, although it is not as efficacious if the infection is severe.

Birth control pills are sometimes prescribed to manage body surface breakout, but the pill has arguably serious side effects. The Diane-35, which was specifically developed to treat severe cases of zits (and not for birth control), has been linked to a small but elevated risk of blood clots compared to other birth control pills. You should also know that if you are taking tetracycline, it negates the contraceptive effectiveness of the pill.

Finding a cure for the breakout is the objective, but the approach should be chosen based on the severity of your skin breakout and the risks linked with potential treatments. Whether the treatments you choose are topical or internal, your doctor can explain what you need to take into consideration prior to making a decision. Body surface medications may be more effective than topical treatments, but they have potentially more serious side effects. You need professional advice and realistic expectations for any method of curing acne you try.

Can Natural Skin Care Products Make You Look Younger And More Attractive?

There are a variety of natural skin care products that you can find on the web and in stores that are supposed to be gentler on the skin and a lot more effective than the chemical containing skin care products that are sold commercially in drug stores and online.

Your face is a good indication of not only how well you take care of your skin, but the health of your body. Good, clear looking skin is an indicator of a person who knows about their body, and cares about their health as well as his or her appearance. The sad part about it is that many people do not have control over the health of their skin. Acne is one of those things that people struggle with every day and it is hard to find a solid cure, especially if you have sensitive skin.

The best natural skin care product you can get hold of is completely free of charge, no matter where you get a hold of it, and that is water. Water makes up a large percentage of the human body and it is vital and essential to the proper function of many organs and it is known to help clear up the skin. Think of it as flushing your face from the inside out. Drinking water allows your body to clean and renew itself and gives your face the chance to refresh and get rid of any dead cells that are clinging to the skin and inhibiting proper skin development.

Avon offers a pretty good line of natural skin care products in their Avon Naturals Bath and Body line of products. The benefit of natural skin care products over their chemical filled counterparts is that it is easier on the skin, more gentle, and can lead to slow recovery rather than destroying the cells that are on your face and starting from scratch.

There are some people out there who are willing to undergo a little bit of discomfort and lack of visual appeal to get to the greater good, and this is normally how it is done with regular skin care products.

Natural skin care products use ingredients from nature that are essential in the development of healthy, beautiful, brilliant skin. Your skin is nothing but a large organ that covers the outside of your body and it is essential that you take care of it and make it last, as with any other organ. Natural anti aging skin care products are like organic food for your body. It gives you everything your body requires from nature but eases up on the unnecessary chemicals that are being seen to lead to other medical problems in the future.

What types of ingredients are included in natural skin care products? All of the things that do NOT break your face out in those other store-bought products to be exact. Things like natural sugars, fiber, wax seed oil, grape seed oil, and even Vitamin C and Vitamin E. These are all things that the body needs that are supposed to come to our bodies by way of nutritious fruits and vegetables.

The truth is, though, that life can get out of hand and it can be hard to try to keep the health and appearance of our skin in mind when looking for a quick bite to eat - we take what we can get.

While natural skin care products may not always be the most inexpensive lines of skin care products out there, they have proven to be some of the most effective. Surely, if you have had issues with your skin before, you have gone through every line of product designed to help you clear up your skin. But for some skin problem sufferers, these specially formulated skin care creams are the only sensible way to go.

You might have to try out the different formulations that have been made available in your local drugstores, or on the various sites on the web. It is time for you to stop playing games with these so-called revolutionary products. Do the best thing for yourself and go the au naturale way.

Natural skin care products are more widely available than ever before and it is time for you to try something a little different and take advantage of the various products that natural skin care product manufacturers have out there to offer.

Searching For a Miracle Acne Cure

The development of acne, although common, can cause emotional distress and embarrassment, caused by the changing appearance of the skin. People spend millions of dollars a year trying to find a miracle acne cure, but unfortunately, finding a quick fix is never easy.

Ultimately, each individual has their own unique skin, so what works for some, may not work for all. Finding an acne cure depends largely on each individual's distinctive skin type. Acne cases rang in severity from mild to moderate to severe.

And while mild cases can often be treated successfully with over-the-counter medications, moderate or severe acne should be examined by a doctor or dermatologist, who may recommend prescription strength medications. In some unique cases, a combination of over-the-counter and prescription medications may be recommended.

But no matter what the situation, medications will need to work in conjunction with a daily skin care routine to achieve the greatest chance for success.

Finding a successful acne cure should begin with the utilization of oil-free skin products, noncomedogenic cosmetics, and oil-free hair products. Because acne is caused by the over-production of oil within the skin, oil-based products only serve to aggravate the skin and cause an acne flare up. Doctors even go so far as to recommend using oil-free hair products because of the oil that can build-up on the hairline.

Ultimately, the key to finding an acne cure is finding those products that mitigate oil production. It is essential to gently wash the skin with a mild, dermatologist recommended cleanser; but be conservative in your technique. Excessive washing can lead to increased irritation and inflammation.

Subsequently, washing of the skin should be limited to twice a day and excessive handling of the skin through touching, picking, squeezing or popping of blemishes should be avoided.

Contrary to popular belief, sun tanning is not an acne cure. While the sun may conceal the redness and irritation of acne prone skin, the disguise is short lived. Overall, the sun will cause more long range effects to the skin, some of which are far more dangerous and scarring than acne. Stay out of the sun and use a mild, oil-free sunscreen at all times.

Fifteen-percent of individuals who suffer with acne have sweating to blame for the worsening of their condition. Certain types of sports equipment or sports helmets may also cause an increase in acne due to perspiration. In this case, an acne cure may be as simple as wearing loose clothing and washing gently after excessive perspiration.

Every day more and more research is being done to understand acne and its causes; and the continued development of medications and effective treatment plans give cause for hope. Researchers understand that they must thoroughly examine the root of the problem in order to develop an effective acne cure.

But for now, acne sufferers can take confidence in knowing that there are several plans to follow and medications available. Consistently following the plan outlined by a dermatologist will control acne, providing an individual acne cure tailor made for your particular skin.

Save Your Skin - What You Need To Know About The Dangers of Preservatives in Skin Care Products

Staying Young: You've heard a lot about anti-aging and skin care. What can you really do?

The skin is the largest organ of your body. It breathes in and out, taking in nutrients and releasing toxins. You may have noticed a trend in the pharmaceutical industry in which more and more prescriptions are being offered in 'patch' or gel form. This is because research shows that introducing substances through the skin is an effective and steady way to get needed medicines directly into the bloodstream.

That's great news when it comes to medicine, but what does that mean to us about skin care? It means that we have to ask two important questions about the products we choose to use to enhance our skin; what's in it? And is it helpful or harmful?

Over 10,000 chemicals are used as ingredients in skin care products throughout the industry. The National Institute of Occupational Safety has determined that 900 of those are unsafe and other have yet to be tested for safety. In Europe, more than 400 have been banned for use but many of those can still be found in products on our grocery, drug and health food store shelves. While some skin care companies claims products are "all natural", or "anti-aging" they may still contain ingredients that are potentially harmful and promote breakdown of the skin, like some natural and synthetic preservatives, suspected carcinogens, drying alcohols, synthetic fragrances and dyes.

While beauty may not be "skin deep", keep in mind that your skin care product go deep beyond the skin and can affect your long-term health and appearance. Being an educated skin care shopper will ensure that you get the best possible products to enhance your skin and protect your health.

Remember, no matter how much good stuff you have in a skin product...if there are parabens present, they inhibit the cells from absorbing and benefitting from nourishing ingredients in the products.

x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x

WHAT ARE PARABENS?

Parabens are esters of p-Hydroxybenzoic Acid. They are Methylparaben, Ethylparaben, Propylparaben, Butylparaben. They are used as effective preservatives in cosmetic, food and drug formulations and protect against yeast, moulds and bacteria. Preservatives are used to maintain the integrity of formulations and are often formulated with "broad spectrum" preservative systems to protect against oxidation as well as contamination.

In a recently published scientific study Methylparaben was found to increase damage to skin cells caused by UV light2. This research suggests that parabens may increase the "aging" effect on the skin from sun and other UV exposure. This new development could have dramatic implications for the skin care industry.

Although preservatives used by reputable manufacturers are usually extensively tested for safety under conditions of normal use, new research is discovering that some commonly used preservatives may have such unintended effects as irritation, inflammation and accelerated aging of the skin. This makes sense in light of the fact that preservatives can have negative effects on living cells.

This is why is would be advantageous to have a preservative-free skin care system.

Chemicals & Health Campaign by Woman's Institute & WWF

When we think of the Women's Institute we usually think of cake sales, flower arranging or even the movie Calendar Girls. How things change.. the WI are avid campaigners for safe chemicals in our everyday products.

They have linked up the WWF to campaign against harmful chemicals being used in cosmetics, toiletries and cleaning products. The WI believe that harmful chemicals are widely used in skincare and cleaning products and many of them contain chemicals which are known to have direct links to allergies, cancers, birth defects and other illnesses.

Is it too much to ask that harmful chemicals should be removed from all skincare and cleaning products? We don't think so! We believe that information is key. Most consumers are unaware what ingredients are in their products and do not feel confident enough to read cosmetic labels. Chemical Safe Skincare have put together a simple screening list of ingredients that have been identified as potential skin irritants and can be easily avoided. Too many people search for natural, organic and sensitive skincare products and believe they are better for their skin and bodies. In some cases they are. But many make claims that aren't supported so read ingredient lists carefully.

A Quick Sneak Peek On Baby Acne

About 20 per cent of new born baby get affected by acne which is called as neonatorum or baby acne. This is really a matter of serious concern as nobody wants their innocent and tender baby to get affected by it. Let's have a quick sneak peek on baby acne.

What causes baby acne?

Acne vulgaris, occurs because of over activity of the sebaceous glands which produces a lot of excess oil. When this excessive oil production combines with acne producing bacteria and hair follicles, it forms an apt environment for acne breakout. However, the main cause of baby acne is the hormones that get passed from the mother during the birth. These hormones excite the sebaceous glands in the baby and thus result in acne.

The baby acne gets more pronounced when the child is annoyed or fussy. The acne breakout may even happen when some milk is split or you use a rough cloth on the baby. Do not wash the baby clothes with the harsh detergents as this can again pronounce the acne breakout.

Some facts about baby acne
Generally, it occurs in an infant when he is around 4 weeks old and persists till the age of 4 months. It can appear on the chin, forehead, cheeks and, sometimes even, on the back of the child. The condition is more common in male infants than the female ones.

Do not confuse baby acne with other skin disorders!
You also have to be careful to not confuse acne in small kids with any other allergy or skin disorders. Some babies have bumps on their face from the time of birth but they get disappeared after a few weeks- this type of skin disorder is called milia.

Also, some babies have rashes called eczema. So, the main thing is that you have to properly recognize whether it is really acne or some allergy and then only go for any type of medication. But, even if it is a minor allergy you should try to get rid of it at the earliest.

Treating baby acne

Regarding the treatment options available, the best is patience as in many cases baby acne disappears on its own without any medication. Apart from it, you should strictly do the following if your baby has acne:

1.Avoid washing the baby's face and body with any harsh soaps.

2.Always use a mild soap or shampoo.

3.Also, do not wash the clothes of your baby with any harsh detergent and avoid using such clothes for the baby as they can cause rashes to the baby's body.

4.You should also see that your child does not get irritated or fussed as it might aggravate his condition.

5.And last but never the least, meet the dermatologist and strictly follow his advice to treat the acne. You can not afford to experiment with any of the OTC products for your baby's skin.

Infant Eczema And Probiotics

  • What are probiotics?
  • Why are probiotics good at helping infant eczema?
  • What dose of probiotics needs to be taken to help with infant eczema?

What Are Probiotics?

Probiotics are supplements which contain a mixture of 'friendly' bacteria such as bifidobacteria and lactobacilli.

These bacteria are naturally found in the bowel and help to keep it healthy.

Why Are Probiotics Good At Helping Infant Eczema?

Probiotics are good at helping infant eczema because clinical trials have shown a significant improvement in infants when the mother has taken probiotics during pregnancy, whilst breast-feeding or giving them directly to young children.

Probiotics are better at reducing eczema caused by allergic reactions.

It is thought that the probiotics help to reduce eczema by improving the digestions and absorption of food and by supporting the immune system.

What Dose Of Probiotics Needs To Be Taken To Help With Infant Eczema?

To help with infant eczema, pregnant or breast-feeding mothers should take probiotic supplements daily.

To enable the probiotic supplements to pass through your stomach undigested, make sure the supplements are enteric coated;

Note: probiotic bacteria tend to be fragile.

Heat destroys probiotic bacteria, for this reason, you should never take probiotic bacteria with hot beverages or food.

So, to sum up...

Probiotics supplements contain a mixture of 'friendly' bacteria which is usually found naturally in the bowel and helps to keep it healthy.

Probiotics are good at reducing infant eczema because they improve the digestion and absorption of food and support the immune system.

Latest Acne Scar Treatment with Microneedle Therapy

The aim of acne treatment is not just to reduce outbreaks, but the prevention of permanent scars. For adults whose acne has been quiescent for years, the scars often remain. Such permanent facial scarring, especially if prominent and deep over the cheek area, can have a major negative impact on the individual's self confidence.

Various treatments have been used in an attempt to reduce the appearance of acne scars. Microdermabrasion is popular as it is relatively non-invasive. Multiple sessions (20-25) are needed for optimum results. The scars depth is reduced and a glow is more visible. Microdermabrasion is useful in shallow, rolling scars and has little impact on the deeper ice pick scars.

Subcision has been employed to cut the fibers under the scar tissue, in an attempted to release the scars from the underlying tissues. This is useful for ice pick scars. Further filling with a temporary or permanent dermal filler may be needed for an even skin surface.

The best treatment to date has been laser resurfacing. This destroys the skin surface. When the epithelium grows back, the skin is smooth and unscarred. However, this is a traumatic procedure with a prolonged recovery.

A new roller device with rows of tiny microneedles is now available for the treatment of acne scars. When the needles penetrate the skin surface, micro-channels form. This allows product penetration past the skin barrier. The physical minute breaks in the skin surface stimulates the skin to produce collagen naturally (Collagen Induction Therapy). New skin forms under the dead scar tissue, hence the skin naturally becomes smoother once it regenerates.

Up to three treatments, six to eight weeks apart (length of the skin growth cycle), are needed for optimal results. Depending on the device and protocol chosen, downtime can be minimal. The results are progressive. As the skin remains intact, there is no increased sensitivity to the sun. The micro-channels close within minutes, and the skin continues its normal barrier function.

This simple mechanical device produces results equivalent to laser therapy, without the prolonged recovery or expense. It is rapidly gaining popularity worldwide as a useful part of the Aesthetic Physician's tool kit in the treatment of acne scars and general rejuvenation.

Collagen Induction Therapy is the new buzz word in anti-ageing and aesthetic therapy.
